Youth Leadership Academies
PAADA has had a long history of success in hosting Youth Leadership Academies and many LCSD students have participated in them over the years. Our last one prior to the pandemic was in Spring of 2019, and we are excited to re-start them in partnership with LCSD, the Charter Schools, and Angell Job Corps.
The goal of the academies is to facilitate Lincoln County's Youth to help them recognize how they can make a difference in their communities.
March 16, 2023 48 students from LCSD high schools, Siletz Early College Academy, and Angell Job Corps participated in the Youth Leadership Academy at the Samaritan Center for Health Education. Students heard an emotional keynote address from Mr. Jon Zagel, retired LCSD administrator and current Executive Director of the Lincoln County Foundation. They also attended four breakout sessions:
1. Risk Reduction Strategies
2. There is an Art to Leadership and Mental Health
3. Introduction to Restorative Practices
4. Building a Healthy and Peaceful Community
Working in partnership with the Samaritan HIWAY Grant, we are hoping to hold two academies per year, Fall and Spring. Stay tuned for more information, and contact us if you’d like to get involved!
